Bio:
Furusho von Puttkammer is a multimedia artist and curator based in New York City. She is the former Director of Art in Odd Places, an annual performance arts festival that takes place along the length of 14th street in Manhattan. von Puttkammer’s work has been featured in BUST Magazine, IDEAT China, and Galleria das Minas, and she has performed domestically (Stone Wall Inn, 68 Jay Street, Goldsounds, & Gallery 128) and internationally (Graz, Austria). Her paintings have been displayed internationally. She graduated from School of Visual Arts in 2018 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts.
von Puttkammer’s work explores the isolation, claustrophobia, and absurdity of, “otherness,” -as defined by Western and Asian culture - through oil painting, photoshop, and performance. von Puttkammer culls from experience as a mixed-race queer neurodivergent woman raised in middle-class suburbia to visually recreate the seething silent discomfort and the subliminal fatal positionality of those childhood memories.
SALT & OIL depicts pale creatures from a dark, nebulous world reminiscent of a drug den. Scenes are fashioned from a fusion of porn, historical photography, film noir, and personal saucy experiences. The depicted provocateurs seduce the viewer into profane scenarios, confusing the observer with a dichotomy of shock and intrigue. Referencing the works of Caravaggio, Robin F. Williams, Antoine D’Agata, Mr. Bean and more – the sexuality, violence, and absurdity of the work ironically challenges yet champions the viewer as voyeur.
Dinner will be accompanied by the Brilliant Enshu Chawla and their Guitar!
As humans we interpret the world from our own perspectives, yet we are always moving within the confines of what society has built for us.
NYC Artist Furusho von Puttkammer has built their own garden, one of defined conviction and integrity. virtues that are lost upon many.
Anchovy's vision is one of truth and self exploration, their protagonist defies the barriers of etiquette and political correctness and instead transforms the realm they see into honest explorations and emotions of wonder.
It is through true darkness that Anchovy shares with the collector their vision of not being afraid to be yourself, not intimidated to be the art and not a puppet to be judged.
The true prize has already been obtained, authenticity.
I am excited beyond measure to have Anchovy share their work and the universe they have created with 86 Orchard.
